Silence, Solitude & Spiritual Depth

Chronic Exhaustion Is Not A Badge Of Honor

“For the Lord GOD, the Holy One of Israel, has said: “‘By repentance and rest you would be saved; your strength would lie in quiet confidence— but you were not willing.’ ‘No,’ you say, “we will flee on horses.’ Therefore you will flee! “We will ride swift horses,” but your pursuers will be faster.”

Isaiah 30:15-16

----------

You can’t outrun your exhaustion.  You can’t outwork your insecurities. You can’t out hustle your heartaches.  You can’t outride your sins.  Eventually, it will all catch up to you.

The secret is not more horse power.  Quit thinking that if you could find swifter horses, you can escape the natural and spiritual consequences of a weary soul and wayward spirit. No amount of self improvement, best practices for efficiency, or leadership know how will keep the hounds of condemnation and collapse from hunting you down.

God has made His invitation clear- Repent and rest in Me, and you will be saved.  Stop counting on your own strength, and learn to experience the quiet confidence of a man who has learned what applied grace looks like.  Lay down your pride, humble yourself and quit resisting God’s restorative practices of silence, solitude, and meditation upon His Word.  You have been lauded for how fast and how hard you can run, and that speed and endurance will be your undoing.  No matter how swift your horses may be, your pursuers will ultimately prove to be faster.

Stop running. Turn around, and walk back to God.  Bring your exhaustion, insecurities, heartaches, and sins to Christ, and lay them at the foot of the cross.  If you are not feeling rested, forgiven, and strong with a quiet confidence that cannot be shaken, the problem is not with God.  The problem is you are not willing.

Chronic exhaustion is not a badge of honor; it’s a sign of rebellion.  Rest in Christ today.

Reflection:  (Don’t skip this!)

  • What do I need to know?
