Lay Down Your (BLANK) For Your Friends

“No one has greater love than this, that someone would lay down his life for his friends.”

John 15:13

----------

When it comes to friendship, Jesus set the ultimate standard. He called His shot- “You want to see what true friendship looks like… it looks like dying for your brothers.” No more than 16 hours later, Jesus died on the cross for the sins of His brothers and the rest of sinful humanity.

To underscore how great of a friend Jesus was in comparison to His disciples, after speaking these words, one “friend” betrayed Him for a bag of silver, another “friend” denied knowing Him 3 times, and 10 more “friends” ran away at the moment of His greatest need.

Laying down your life for your brothers is big talk, but few men rarely ever do it. There are some men, particularly soldiers, however, who over the millennia, have laid their lives down for their brothers.  But, in the comfortable, suburban bubbles that many men live in, few are asked to leap on a grenade for the man in their Bible study.

Still, the sacrificial love, and deep loyalty needed for strong brotherhood remains today.

What would you lay down for your friends?

Honestly consider your personal response to these checkpoints-

In sacrificial love, I would…

  • Lay down my phone for my friends.
  • Lay down my pride for my friends.
  • Lay down my plans for my friends.
  • Lay down my masks for my friends.
  • Lay down my time for my friends.

Today, lay something down for your friends… and become more like Jesus.

Reflection: (Don’t skip this!)

  • What do I need to know?
  • How do I need to grow?
  • Where does this need to show up in my life?

Take the challenge, step up to the task, and watch God transform your life, your relationships and your legacy over the next 75 days in God’s Word.
