Your Weakness Unlocks God’s Power

But He said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for My power is perfected in weakness.’ Therefore I will boast all the more gladly in my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest on me.”

2 Corinthians 12:9

Weakness is not the goal. No man wants to be weak. Our wives do not want (or respect) weak husbands. Our kids do not look up to weak fathers. Our churches are not calling for weak men to lead them. As the saying goes, “Weak men create hard times.”

The goal is power. We are not talking about political power, physical power, military power, or cultural power, but divine power.

Military power can win wars, but only God’s power can win hearts.
Political power can sway elections, but only God’s power can sway the elect.
Physical power can carry heavy loads, but only God’s power can carry heavenly burdens.

A man can capture earthly power by wielding strength, but no man can wield God’s power in his own strength. In one of the many mysterious paradoxes of the Gospel, God’s power only comes to those who make themselves weak.

Audacious authenticity may seem weak to those uninitiated by God’s grace, but in reality, the powerful men are the ones strong enough to make themselves vulnerable. They don’t just acknowledge their weaknesses, but learn to boast gladly in their weaknesses so the power of Christ can take the mantle of control in their lives.

John the Baptist was onto this paradox, which he expressed in John 3:30- “He must increase; I must decrease.” That is the way to become a strong and powerful man God can use. Every day, begin praying, “More of you, less of me.” Watch what God does next.
