"When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I set aside childish ways.”

1 Corinthians 13:11

When does a boy become a man? According to Paul, a boy becomes a man when he sets aside childish ways. Sadly, there are many boys trapped in the bodies of guys in their 20’s, 30’s, 40’s and older!

A study from Cambridge University concluded that modern adolescence now extends from ages 9 to 32 for a majority of young men today. This is a problem that must be punched in the mouth. Too much coddling, compromising, and castrating of young men by well meaning but wildly misguided Moms, educators, counselors and cultural influencers have convinced men that they are incapable of being responsible, doing hard things, and setting aside their childish ways.

Are there childish ways that you need to set aside? Wasting time on trivial screentime? Reckless and undisciplined spending? Casual sex or pornography? Short tempered, emotional outbursts? Pouting when things don’t go your way? Making excuses and not taking responsibility? This is just the tip of the iceberg. Think hard about the areas where you need to set aside your childish ways, or better yet, ask those around you to identify them for you.
