I Need To Tell You Guys Something…

“Confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous man has great power to prevail.”

James 5:16

----------

“I need to tell you guys something…”

Confessing your sins to a band of brothers can require more courage than running into a house on fire, but more homes are burned down by the destructive fires of secret sins than those that require men with ladders and axes to put them out.

Satan’s formula is frustratingly effective- Entrap a man in secret sin, bind him up in guilt and shame, chain him in the darkness of his deceit, and then throw the spotlight of accusation and humiliation on him when he has the noose tied squarely around his neck.  This tried and true formula has taken down pastors, politicians, and people you know and love.  It will take you down too… if you let it.

Satan’s formula is counting on one thing- That you won’t turn on the lights.  Sin only holds power in the darkness, and when you bring it into the light, and confess your sins to God and to your brothers, you will find freedom from all the guilt, shame, and deceit that once squeezed you tighter than an unrelenting vice.

Is it scary to confess your sins to others? Yes, but not nearly as scary as watching your wife and kids burn in a house you set on fire.

Freedom often begins by saying, “I need to tell you guys something…”

Reflection:  (Don’t skip this!)

  • What do I need to know?
  • How do I need to grow?
  • Where does this need to show up in my life?
