Journey To The Center Of Yourself

“Surely You desire truth in the inmost being; You teach me wisdom in the inmost place.”

Psalm 51:6

----------

Who are you in your innermost being?  Go deep to the very core of your true self.  Past the social media, your public perception, the guy people know at church and even beyond the man your wife and children see at home.  Keep going deeper, past the man you see in the mirror and into “the innermost place” of your heart, soul, and mind. This place that I am describing is not a place you can get to by car, train, or jet plane.  You can’t buy your way into it like a timeshare, and there is no drive thru lane. Truthfully, some men have never even visited their innermost place… their inner being.

Surprisingly, the way to this innermost place is often not on the path of glorious victory, but on the trail of bitter disappointment.  For King David, the Warrior Poet known as “a man after God’s own heart,” these words were written after the greatest failure of his life- his fall into sexual sin with his friend’s wife. Sometimes our outer selves need to crater, crack, and crumble before we take the journey to the center of our selves.  In Psalm 51, David chronicles the painful experience of finding God’s grace as he brought God’s light into the darkness of his innermost being.

You don’t have to blow up your life to let God into your innermost being.  It only takes humility, vulnerability, and some stillness and God can bring His healing grace and enlightening wisdom to your innermost place.

What would it look like to go deeper with God than you have ever gone before?

Reflection: (Don’t skip this!)

  • What do I need to know?
  • How do I need to grow?
  • Where does this need to show up in my life?
