Husbands: Do You Have A Scarcity Mindset When It Comes To Sex?

“If you’re not having sex at least 3 times per week, there is something wrong with your marriage.”

Broad statements like this often do more harm than good and can create an unhealthy scarcity mindset in your marriage. The purpose of sex is to facilitate and celebrate intimacy between a husband and wife who have covenanted with one another to become “one flesh” for life, not to have a more impressive sexual scorecard than other men you know.

Similar to financial or material scarcity mindsets, a sex scarcity mindset can cause you to focus on the bad feelings associated with a comparative lack of sex than being grateful for the intimacy you do enjoy.

Moving to an “abundance mindset” when it comes to sex means-

  •     Giving affection without transaction.
  •     Celebrating marital intimacy wherever it can be found.
  •     Expressing how much you enjoy touching and being touched by your wife.
  •     Being more romantic and affectionate than ever.

When disappointment and desperation are replaced by gratitude and pleasure, the ice will begin to melt more quickly. Don’t see sex as a resource to be horded, but affection as a gift to be given freely.

The Swordsman: Wielding the Word — Part 1: Husbands is a new IMPACT Cohort study for men who desire to be great husbands who are skillfully equipped with the Word of God.  We call these men who know how to rightly handle Scripture in their marriage, family, and work lives “Swordsmen.”

The difference between a man with a sword and a swordsman comes down to training and expertise. The Word of God is known as “the sword of the Spirit” and “a double-edged sword,” yet most men have not learned to wield God’s Word like an expert swordsman. In this IMPACT Players Cohort study, men will be trained with the 7 verses that every husband must learn to wield effectively in their marriage.
