2,000+ years ago, a man walked up to Jesus and asked Him a profound question- “What must I do to inherit eternal life?” Think about that… is there any more important question than that? Lifting weights might help your body stay strong and healthy a few years longer, but no amount of weightlifting will ever allow you to live forever.

Doing crossword puzzles might help your mind stay sharp for a few extra years, but no amount of mental training will allow you to live forever.

A regular date night with your wife, or special moments with your children may allow your relationships to grow stronger, but no amount of relational intimacy will allow you to live forever.

You see, men are more than just their bodies (physical), minds (mental), or even hearts (emotional). They also have souls (spiritual). A soul that has not come to know its maker (God Almighty) has no hope of eternal life.

“What must I do to inherit eternal life?” That is the question… and Jesus responded, by asking a question Himself- “What do the Scriptures say?” There are a lot of people out there peddling their own watered down plans to have eternal life, but the only one that matters is the one created by God Himself. So, what does the man say? He responds with these words from the Old Testament book of Deuteronomy-

“Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind’ and ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.” (Luke 10:27)

If you are looking for the hardest challenge you could ever take on, this is it. Mastering this challenge of loving God completely and loving others selflessly is like climbing Mt Everest on a pogo stick. It’s impossible. You can’t do it. Neither can your wife, your dad, your pastor or your favorite Christian action figure. Only one man has ever done it perfectly- Jesus Christ.

At the heart of the IMPACT Hard challenge is a fundamental truth- hard work is not enough. No matter how hard you work, you cannot save your soul, be the husband, father, and leader you need to be, or find the deep significance and purpose your soul craves. Grace alone by faith alone in Christ alone is the way to inherit eternal life.

This 75 Day Scripture Reading & Prayer Plan is designed to help you grow, no matter where you are in your walk with God. Reading the devotional is the easy part… you can read it in a few minutes. What makes this an IMPACT Hard devotional is taking the time to reflect, journal, and commit yourself to apply the truths each day to your life. Each devotional will end with these three reflection questions-

What do I need to know? (Take the time to identify and write down the lessons God is trying to teach you from the daily devotional.)
How do I need to grow? (You will likely see a gap between where you are and where you want to be… write down how you want to close that gap.)
Where does this need to show up in my life? (This is where the transformation becomes visible in your life and relationships. Specifically articulate how you want to show up differently in a relationship or circumstance.)
