How Do You KNOW (for sure) You Belong To God?

“God’s truth stands firm like a foundation stone with this inscription: ‘The LORD knows those who are His,’ and ‘All who belong to the LORD must turn away from evil.’”

2 Timothy 2:19

Do you belong to God? That IS the foundational question. The question is not-

Am I a good guy? (You’re not- see Romans 3:23)
Do I go to church enough? (You don’t- see Hosea 6:6)
Do I believe in God? (Even the demons believe in God- see James 2:19)

Here is what it boils down to… in heaven, there is a “Book of Life” that contains the names of every person who belongs to God and have been redeemed and adopted according to His sovereign plan. This book, also referred to as “The Lamb’s Book of Life” (see Philippians 4:13, Revelation 3:5, 13:8, and 21:27) is the final authority on whether a person will spend eternity with God in heaven.

The question each man must ask himself is, “Will my name be in the Lamb’s Book of Life?” The Gospel tells us how we are to find salvation in this life- “If you declare with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.” Romans 10:9.

Can you confidently say that you have done this?

Jesus says the evidence of a man who has experienced salvation, received forgiveness, and been adopted into God’s family is the fruit of repentance (Matthew 3:8). This is the inscription on the foundation stone of your salvation- “All who belong to the Lord must turn away from evil.”

Your confidence and unshakable foundation is in this- Knowing you belong to God.
