Winning Is Not A Sometimes Thing- It Is An All The Time Thing

“Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock. And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, but it did not fall, because it had been founded on the rock.”

Matthew 7:24–25

----------

You are the head coach.  Every day, you gather your players together in practice and remind them of the vision and values of the team. You walk them through the drills and show them exactly how you want them to execute each drill with precision and consistency.  Before the game, you break down the plays you are going to run and each person’s role on the team.  Then, at tip off, you stare in disbelief as the team goes out there and acts like they have never played the game before, and they get walloped by the opposing squad.

Sometimes, God probably feels like the head coach in this story.  He has given us everything we need to be a championship squad- The Playbook, expert coaching, precision training, and He even put His Son (the GOAT) on the team with you.  Yet, when the whistle blows, instead of running the plays God has given you, or giving the ball to Jesus, you start trying to showboat or you panic and get walloped by the Enemy.

It’s really not that complicated- Hear what Jesus is telling you to do… and do it.  Over, and over, and over again.  As the great football coach Vince Lombardi once said, "Practice does not make perfect. Only perfect practice makes perfect.” Putting in the reps with Christ, doing the little things right (reading the Bible, praying, going to church, tithing, obeying His voice), and running the plays of Scripture is building a foundation in your spiritual walk that will make you an IMPACT Player when the game is on the line and all hell is breaking loose.

“Winning is not a sometime thing, it is an all the time thing. You don’t do things right once in a while…you do them right all the time.” Vince Lombardi
