“Then the LORD God took the man and placed him in the Garden of Eden to cultivate and keep it.”

Genesis 2:15

Every man asks three important questions in his life- Who am I? Where do I belong? Why am I here? The first question deals with your identity. The second question deals with your community. The third question deals with your purpose.

You were created with a purpose. While the granular details of your purpose may take more spiritual reflection and mining of your soul, you can be sure that God has put you on this earth to do the following-

Cultivate: God wants you to grow what He has put within you and around you. Your faith, character, integrity, wisdom and knowledge are all internal gardens God has placed within you to grow and cultivate. Your family, leadership, finances, church, and relationships are external gardens He has entrusted to your care.

Protect: Men are called to be protectors. Like a shepherd guarding his flock from wolves and other predators, men must protect their wives, children, and churches. They must also protect the vulnerable, least, and oppressed members of society.

Steward: You don’t own anything. Everything you have belongs to God. God has entrusted to you every material resource, position of power, gift and ability for you to steward for His purpose and glory. A day will come when you will have to give an account of what you did with what God gave you.

Reflection: Write your responses to the following questions (Don’t skip this!)

What do I need to know?
How do I need to grow?
Where does this need to show up in my life?
