Every husband has spoken harshly, or said something he immediately regretted to his wife. Once you have acted or spoken harshly, trying to undo the mess you have caused is like putting toothpaste back in the tube. You may not be able to undo the mess, but you can take steps to repair it.

Here are 7 statements you can use to get you on the path to healing.

  1. “What I just said was wrong.”
  2. “That came out harsh. Let me take that back.”
  3. “I am sorry. That was unfair, and out of bounds.”
  4. “I don’t know why I just said that…you are not the problem.”
  5. “I got hurt and defensive just then, and I spoke poorly. Let me try again."
  6. “I need to own what I just said, and I owe you an apology.”
  7. “I am not speaking in a loving way. Can we stop and invite the Holy Spirit into this conversation?”

Of course the goal is to never say stupid, selfish, and hurtful things to your wife, but let’s face it, sometimes you react, get angry or defensive and say something you regret.  What would your wife do if after you made another boneheaded comment, you paused and said one of those 7 statements? Would she be shocked? Would you respect you more?

Are you ready to lead your family like that?

In this IMPACT Players Cohort study, men will be trained with the 7 verses that e

A lot of times when we think about spiritual leadership, we imagine ourselves doing hour long Bible studies with our well-behaved children sitting on the floor joyfully and attentively participating.  In reality, spiritual leadership often looks like immediately owning up to your hurtful words and asking for forgiveness.
