And if it is evil in your eyes to serve the LORD, choose this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your fathers served in the region beyond the River, or the gods of the Amorites in whose land you dwell. But as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.

Spiritual leadership in the home begins with a choice. As the husband, father, and leader in your home, you have been given the same choice that Joshua laid out to the men of Israel. You can serve the gods of your culture, your heritage, or your nation, or, you can serve the Lord Jesus Christ.

No one will make that choice for you. Joshua could not choose for the men in his nation, but he could make that decision for his own house. You have that same authority. You have been given the power to say, “As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.”

What does it look like to be the spiritual leader of your home? You cannot force a child or spouse to trust in Christ, surrender their hearts to Him, or even to obey God’s commands. What you can do is determine that God will be the center of your home. You will lead the family in prayer. You will read the Scriptures out loud. You will take your family to church. You will give your tithe to God’s work. You will model the fruits of the Spirit. You will allow no voice, presence, or influence to gain spiritual access or control over your family other than the Lord Himself.

To not choose is a choice in itself. Every day you stay silent, remain convictionless, and go with the flow is a choice to let the gods of this world ransack your home.

Make the choice today- “As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.”
