14 Things To Say To Your Bride On Valentine's Day

You stand in front of a collection of Hallmark cards in the pharmacy for 20 minutes, but everything you read feels cheesy, impersonal, or simply too far removed from your relationship with your wife.

Valentine’s Day can put pressure on men. Cards feel cliche. Flowers feel familiar. And the default “Love you, babe,” while rushing out the door feels inadequate.

The secret to a successful Valentine's is not what you spend, but how valuable you make her feel to you. Here is the truth most husbands forget:

♥️ Words are oxygen to a woman’s heart.

♥️ Encouragement is lifegiving inside marriage.

♥️ Your bride wants to be pursued — not just provided for.

Scripture tells husbands:

“Husbands, love your wives, as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her.” – Ephesians 5:25 (ESV)

Christ didn’t love silently. He spoke life, identity, protection, and affection over His bride. And we are called to reflect that same intentional love.

So if you want to lead well this Valentine’s Day, here are 14 things you can say to your bride that are sweet, romantic, Christ-centered, and sometimes just plain fun.

1. “I would still choose you — every single time.”

2. “You have helped me grow as a follower of Christ.”

3. “You are the best teammate God could have given me.”

4. “I love the woman you are becoming.”

5. “You are so beautiful and I only have eyes for you.”

6. “Thank you for making our home a place our family loves.”

7. “I respect you — you are a wonderful person.”

8. “You make me a better man.”

9. “I am proud to call you my wife.”

10. “If I had to live this life over again, I’d chase you faster.”

11. “Our kids are blessed because they have you as their mom.”

12. “You are my favorite person to laugh with.”

13. “I see how much you contribute to our family, and I am grateful for you.”

14. “I can't imagine living this life without you... I love you.”

The Danger Of Silent Love

One of the most common mistakes husbands make is assuming: “She already knows I love her.” Don't fall into the trap of thinking that you can just go through the motions with your words, using the same tired expressions without thought or meaning. Taking the time to cherish your bride with your words will make her melt for you all over again.

Imagine this... before chocolates and candy, natures greatest sweet treat was honey.  Honey was a rare delicacy, and acquiring it came at great risk or cost.  Now, hear these words about the power of speaking sweet and loving words to your bride.

“Gracious words are like a honeycomb, sweetness to the soul and health to the body.” – Proverbs 16:24 (ESV)

How To Say This Stuff...

If the idea of saying these things seems uncomfortable, foreign or awkward to you, try these simple ideas to communicate your love.

âś” Write Them On Small Cards And Place Around The House

Put one on her pillow, near the bathroom sink, the coffee maker, her purse, etc.

âś” Text One Every Hour For 14 Hours

Turn Valentine’s Day into a steady stream of encouragement.

âś” Kiss Them To Her

Give her a kiss, say one of the statements, then kiss a new part of her until all 14 statements have been shared.

Parting Thought

If you are struggling to determine if these statements still ring true for you and your bride, take the time to reflect, pray, and write down what you would like to say to her that would build her up, and communicate to her that you still love and cherish her, even if there are wounds that still need healing, or scars that cannot be ignored. Be a thermostat, and set the temperature on love, gratitude, vulnerability, and strength.
