Turning Refining Fire Into Revival Fire

A season of refining may be preparing you for a season of revival. If you feel like your fire has gone dim and your faith has grown cold, perhaps this plan for revival will be just what you need to light a fire of revival in your soul once more.

REFINERY RETREAT - A 7 STEP PLAN FOR PERSONAL REVIVAL

The Holy Spirit led Jesus into the desert for 40 days of fasting, testing, and trusting in God alone (see Matthew 4:1). Sometimes for God to reach into the heart of a man, he has to suffer some level of affliction to have his senses fully awakened. If you are a man who feels “comfortable,” “stuck,” or “numb” personally and spiritually, consider carving out a few days for your own solitary “Refinery Retreat.”

7 Actions to Take on a Refinery Retreat

Fasting - Deepen your understanding of your utter dependence upon God.
Hike & Listen - Choose a classic Christian book such as The Cross of Christ by John Stott, Knowing God by JI Packer, or The Pursuit of God by AW Tozer.
Utter Silence - Disconnect from all technology and human interaction. Put yourself in solitary confinement with the Lord.
Journal - Confess your sins. Acknowledge your lukewarm tendencies. Then... pour out your desire to be a man who is fully alive in Jesus. Describe this “fully alive” version of yourself in as vivid detail as possible.
Worship - Sing unto the Lord with all your might. If you can sing acapella, great. If not, turn the music up and sing aloud.
Go Home & Begin to Live - Live like the “fully alive” man you wrote about in vivid detail.
Remember - You are a work in progress... you may need to return to the woods many more times as God continues to refine you!
