Ferociously Faithful

God Isn’t Going To Micromanage You

“Now it is required of stewards that they be found faithful.”

1 Corinthians 4:2

----------

A steward does not need to be micromanaged. Consider the words “found faithful” in today’s verse; it implies the owner has given something to a steward to manage. The owner trusts the steward and has left him with all the tools, resources, and training necessary to grow what he has been given. There is freedom in this relationship, as the owner gives the steward the space to figure out how to make the best of what he has received.

God has entrusted a number of great treasures to you.  The greatest treasure is the Gospel of Jesus Christ, which has the power to save souls and bring them into eternal life.  Additionally, God has given you a number of good and perfect gifts such as a wife, children, friendships, financial resources, influence, a network, skills, abilities, and more.

If God were a micromanager, He could have kept a shrill voice in your ear at all times telling you exactly what to do and not to do, but He didn’t.  Instead, God gave you His Word, the Holy Spirit, prayer, community, and a brain to figure things out as you go.

There is a lot of freedom in being a steward.  One steward might double what has been given to him, while another might bury it in the ground and do nothing.  God's metric of success, and His requirement of stewards is not based on results and outcomes, but on faithfulness and service.

Will you be found faithful with all God has entrusted to you?

Reflection: (Don’t skip this!)

  • What do I need to know?
  • How do I need to grow?
  • Where does this need to show up in my life?
