A Father to the Fatherless

“A father of the fatherless, and a defender of the widows, is God in His holy habitation. God settles the lonely in families.” - Psalm 68:5-6

How does God carry out this breathtaking endeavor? How do the fatherless experience God as their father? How are the widows defended? How do the lonely find a family?

The God-ordained solution is the Church. Not a polished worship service or an efficient program, but the true Church, which is the family of God functioning in community as one body, selflessly caring for one another and walking in step with Jesus. It is men, intervening to provide mentoring, provision, and fatherly concern for those who do not have a healthy relationship with their own father. Leaders, who take the initiative to protect and provide for vulnerable women who are trying to hold their lives and families together with little support. Families, who adopt and embrace the lost and the lonely as one of their own, never letting a person toil in isolation.

The Church is God’s invitation to His family banquet table, where there is always plenty to eat, always room to sit, always love, laughter and life to be found. May we be this kind of Church to a world of orphans, widows, and lonely souls.
